Before your first appointment I’ll ask you to fill in quite a lot of forms, sorry! and return them to me beforehand. This means I’m several steps further on with information gathering by your first appointment. This will also allow me to review any supplements you are already taking, get an overview of your health and typical dietary intake.
During this first appointment I take time to listen to "your story" and consider your health aims. We also go through your health history. This is because I work towards finding the root cause of an individual’s health issues. It isn’t always possible to pinpoint a single root cause but understanding the whole picture can be helpful in directing nutritional therapy support.
Then I work with you to put together a practical and realistic plan, that often evolves over time. I am here to guide you through the process, however I do work in a collaborative way with clients, so sometimes I might ask you to do some homework.
We’ll work at your pace. If you feel like you need a complete overhaul of what you are eating, but don’t know how you are going to manage it, we’ll take it at a manageable pace for you. Carefully considered small changes can make a big difference.
I may suggest having some tests done to help to direct your nutrition plan.
You will be given personalised dietary recommendations in writing, this often includes recipes. Any supplement recommendations are also provided in writing with instructions of where you can source them and details of how to take them.
The frequency of follow-up appointments will depend on the individual. Sometimes an individual will just need two appointments 6 weeks apart. If, however we are working through several challenges or implementing lots of changes, you may see me for 6 appointments throughout 12 months.
